"Room make-over" Living room - 4 hours
|
"Room make-over" Artist's Studio - 12 hours
|
This art student felt that his creativity was stifled by
the overwhelming clutter and conflicting images on the
walls and floors of his studio. He did not want to
relinquish the references to cartooning which included
figurines, LOTS and lots of "Batman" memorabilia
and miscellaneous collectibles. The challenge was to
give him enough room for all his stuff, make the room
a little more 'grown up' and at the artist's
request....paint it 'red'!
We were careful to incorporate the things he loved
while giving him the inspirational studio of his dreams.
We re-purposed "Spiderman" movie boards which had
been collecting dust on the floor and used them as a
window treatment. We set up an art supplies station
and a media center for his computer and stereo
equipment.
The clutter in his drawers and the
close proximity of the television and
computer in his room were a constant
sort of distraction and confusion.
It was tough, but we got the client to put into storage a
lot of memorabilia and posters that weren't related to
the "Batman" theme. We created built-in shelves that
span the width of the windows to store his DVD, video
game and figurine collections. And he got to feature
the beloved "Batman" blanket that he could not bear
to part with.
We mounted the television to the wall, purged about
50% of worn-out clothing, added a decorative
curtain and added 25% additional shelving by using
his old media storage unit to the inside left of the
closet.
Closet and floor space were definitely issues.
